75: Health is Wealth with Coach Sam
Coach Sam is IN THE HOUSE this week and has an urgent offer you can not refuse! Well, unless you don't want to be health rich! Here is the deal- what if the most lucrative part-time job you'll ever have is taking care of your own body and mind? Coach Sam delivers this powerful wake-up call about treating your health as your most valuable investment – one that prevents the painful full-time job of battling disease later in life.
Drawing from her personal experience after hitting rock bottom at age 30, Sam shares how neglecting health can transform into a devastating full-time emergency that drains everything: joy, motivation, energy, and even your capacity for love. The good news? You're already hired for this job! All you need to do is show up. #nouniformrequired
This episode walks you through a practical framework for building your health wealth: creating a personal health mission statement, taking an honest inventory of what's working and what isn't, focusing on one area at a time, getting educated about your body's unique needs, and the setting non-negotiable habits. Sam delivers eye-opening insights about nutrition (did you know we should eat 30 different plants weekly while 80% of our grocery store products come from just corn, wheat and soy?), exercise exploration, and the critical gut-brain connection.
The most transformative realization? Your body and mind aren't enemies – they're partners that will either make you wealthy in wellbeing or bankrupt you through illness. By reclaiming time from pointless distractions like excessive screen time, you create space for this crucial part-time investment in yourself. Perfection isn't the goal; consistent, imperfect action is! Because as Coach Sam reminds us, "Mental and physical disease battles are a full-time job. Better to avoid that by taking care of business now."

Hello, hello, hello, beautiful humans. Coach Sam here doing a solo today. Thanks for coming into the conversation you and I are about to have. That's right, I'm in your ears, so apparently we are connecting today. So I really appreciate your time, energy and attention. Today we're going to talk about health is wealth. That's right, health is wealth.
Samantha Pruitt:What if I offered you the best part-time job ever, with short-term, long-term passive gains, rewards and returns? What if I told you that doing this part-time job would ensure that it doesn't turn into a full-time job later that you hate, a full-time job later that you hate? And what if this part-time job was actually self-employment and you could do it when, how, wherever you choose? Well, that's a hell yes. Right, that is a hell yes. And that's what I mean when I say health is wealth. It's basically a part-time job. Taking care of your health is a part-time job, and I mean a part-time job that we all need to commit to.
Samantha Pruitt:I discovered this the hard way around the age of 30. Around the age of 30. Oh, I had a sick body and a sick brain. It turned into a full-time job quickly, and a very, very painful one at that, because I didn't do the work before, in my first, prior 30 years of life, really, because I didn't know. I didn't know any better and most of us don't know any better. We're not taught, we're not role modeled, we're not supported in the way that we would even know what the hell to do anyway. So over the last 25 years, this part-time job that was a full-time job but turned into a part-time job, evolved for me, and what I mean by that is it was full-time because I was so broken in body and brain that I basically well, not basically I had to quit my real job, the job that paid my bills, and I pretty much had to quit most of life in order to heal the brokenness of my body and brain. And the reason I'm so passionate about this now and I want to impart this on you today is I don't wish that for you, I don't wish that for anybody. I've got some loved ones right now who are battling for their life, with their health, literally, and it's tough. It's a full-time job.
Samantha Pruitt:So if we can all determine that this part-time job that I'm pitching you on today, if you would just invest some time and energy now to avoid disease state later, that's the way to go. It's now my purpose, my passion, my contribution to the world to, and really, the love of my life health, wellness, fitness. I believe if you move your body, you build your mind and you create your life. So let's get started, shall we? Frankly, all of us can do better Me too, and all of us have more to build when it comes to the wealth of health, to avoid physical and mental disease that really robs us of our life, draining our bank account of joy, of motivation, of energy, of inspiration, of productivity and, literally, of love, because fear replaces love when we're in a diseased state. All right, how do we do this? Well, get a pen and paper put on your suit and tie show up to the interview with your top resume. No, truthfully, how do we do this? Number one you're already hired, that's right. You're already hired. So just accept, accept the job. Accept the job and show the hell up. It's just your life anyway. You're hired.
Samantha Pruitt:Number two create and write down yes, pen and paper, real things here. Create and write down your health mission statement. Create and write down your health mission statement. What the hell is that? It is a declaration of your values and aims, a commitment to your values, your life culture, your personal goals. This health mission statement will guide your communications, your thoughts, your decisions and your actions. Number three take an interpersonal inventory. When I say interpersonal, that means you internally, your own thoughts, feelings, ideas about yourself and the world. Take an interpersonal inventory of what is working, what is not working, and write it all down. What is not working and write it all down Regarding your health what is working, what is not working, and write it all down.
Samantha Pruitt:Number four pick one of these areas at a time. Okay, don't get overloaded, don't get overwhelmed. Trying to do everything at one time leads to failure because basically, you're setting yourself up for an unreasonable amount of lifestyle and habit change all at one time. Most of us can only tolerate and actually adapt to small changes, small thoughtful, intentional changes over time, not everything at once. That will be overwhelming and frustrating and crazy making for the people you live with also. So pick one area at a time. Okay, what's not working? Also, we make a list of what is working, because lots of things probably are working. There's probably plenty of things you are loving that are going well. Stoked on and, frankly, pat yourself on the back, rinse and repeat those good behaviors. Let's keep them intact and let's replace some of the behaviors that are no longer working or serving you.
Samantha Pruitt:So, pick one area at a time, get some support if you need it. I don't know, maybe you need a coach, maybe you need an accountability partner or group, maybe you need some other type of support to make this change, these changes that ultimately, you will stack and get educated. Okay, you can get educated through a support system or you can get educated all on your own through the World Wide Web. There's also so much out there in terms of books, reading materials, podcasts, et cetera, et cetera. Sometimes too much, and that can become overwhelming, but I think many of us have people that we trust in our lives. It doesn't have to be a coach. It can be a friend or a family member or whatever People that are just crushing it out there. What are they learning? What do they know? How can they share some of these resources to help get you educated on what your options are? And then explore these options. Okay, explore, go, check it out, go, try them.
Samantha Pruitt:It's a natural progression for all of us to evolve physically, intellectually, emotionally. This area of our life called our health which is everything, by the way, of course should be a natural progression as well. We should have a curiosity to understanding how our body works. How does our brain work? I am a freaking nerd when it comes to this stuff. I get not. Everybody is totally into learning all the things about the physical body and how it works and how it's evolving and science is evolving currently at a rapid pace. It's super, super exciting time for us to be humans, but if you're not a total nerd about it, that's cool. Find the things that you are interested in and get yourself educated.
Samantha Pruitt:Okay, let me show you some examples. So an example would be you have taken an inventory. Well, first of all, you understand you're hired, so you showed up for the job. Okay, you've written yourself a health mission statement, which is again a declaration of your own values and aims, a commitment to these values, to your life, culture and your personal goals. You've taken an inventory and you've decided what's not working for you currently is your nutrition. Okay, you have now got to say all right, I'm going to focus on the big bucket, the giant bucket called nutrition. All right, nutrition is how you fuel your body and brain. It's literally the building blocks for the body you walk around in every single day and for all of the organs, including the organ of the brain, how you think, process thoughts, process emotions, how you interpret the world. I mean critical. Your nutrition is critical. You have been honest about what's working and what's not working. I am really good at I'm giving examples. Now, you know, getting my green drink in every morning and maybe taking some vitamins and supplements that are working for me that my body has been deficient in, and maybe limiting the amount of sugar or processed foods. Okay, what's not working? Well, there are some things that seem to be causing me GI distress, bloating, gas, diarrhea or constipation, skin rashes, whatever, whatever, all right. So that's just taking an honest inventory.
Samantha Pruitt:Right Now we're going to add, eliminate or replace some of the things that are not working. We should eliminate, we should replace them. Maybe they just get eliminated and don't get replaced. For me, it's gluten. I have actually quite a few food allergies and I have the autoimmune disease, celiacs, which is a gluten intolerance. So for me, I've had to eliminate a lot of things over the last 25 years and really take time figuring that out. It does require patience. However, the quality of my life has greatly improved and the quality of my body and brain function is well. It's night and day compared to what it was.
Samantha Pruitt:Maybe we need to add some things in. Okay, so, for example, the average human this is for health and longevity should eat 30 different plants per week Variety variety, variety, 30 different plants per week, or plant sources that can be seeds and nuts also. However, if you walk into your local grocery store, 80% of the food products are made from three items corn, wheat and soy. So in the grocery store, mostly for sale is corn wheat and soy, but we need to eat 30 different types of plants and we need to eat at least 50% of our diet from vegetables and the other 50% from protein, carbohydrates, etc. However, in the store, for sale is something different. So you have to be really intentional about what am I going to change. Pick your things that need improvement. I'm just giving you examples, just some examples.
Samantha Pruitt:But what's going on for you is unique. You're a unique human being and it's really important to learn what you need, not what you want, because I guarantee those chips and cookies and you know packaged processed foods, etc. Etc. I guarantee your brain is telling you that you want those, but what is it that you actually need? Need and then gradually over time, shift your mindset and behaviors around your nutritional profile, what your body is taking in by choice every day, and then set some non-negotiables around that. So if I'm going to do XYZ or I'm not going to do ABC, that's a non-negotiable for me. So non-negotiable habits that you will or will not commit to, okay. So, avoiding things or incorporating things, whatever works for you on the daily, create some non-negotiables. Create some non-negotiables.
Samantha Pruitt:If you want to learn something interesting and I know you do learn about the gut-brain interplay. The gut-brain, yes, the gut-brain. The gut and brain are tied together in an intricate dance. I call it an interplay, but they talk to each other, they operate together. It's fascinating. Learn about things like that. It will blow your mind. So the more you learn about nutrition for your body and how your body functions, I think, the more interesting this can become for you.
Samantha Pruitt:We're not here to make you crazy around what you put in your mouth, okay. We are here to build your health. The wealth of your health and nutrition is obviously a huge, paramount, foundational element of health. Another example could be exercise. All right, so let's say you choose your biggest pain point right now to be the giant bucket called exercise. Well, make a list what's working, what's not working, what's fun and what's getting you the results you want, what's not, what are you dreading, what do you hate, what doesn't feel good, and then let's stop, start, try or replace different things. Maybe we need to stop going to that same old workout we've done year, day after day, for years and years and years because we're not seeing any results that we want. Maybe we need to stop going to a gym that doesn't make us feel good emotionally. When we walk in the door, we don't feel fired up about going there. Maybe we need to start something new, like hey, maybe we need to start strength training because we're aging and we're noticing that there's muscle loss happening or quality of the integrity of our bones and connective tissue is starting to deteriorate. Whatever, whatever it is for you, and then try new things, replace things and explore. Learn what it is you need. Again, there is no one nutritional program. There is no one exercise program. There is no one sleep program for every human. We're so all incredibly unique. Learn what you need at this season of your life and explore the variety of what is out there.
Samantha Pruitt:Be brave and be willing to fail for growth. I have personally had eight businesses, and many of my friends are self-employed people and have had their own businesses over their lifetime. At some point, when you start a new business, you have to be brave and willing to fail If you want to grow. Your health is no different. This is your job. You have to be brave. You have to be willing to fail for growth. Also, the big wins come from taking big risks.
Samantha Pruitt:In this area, you've been doing the same damn thing for days, if not years, of your life, I guarantee it. Many of us, me included, have repetitive habits and patterns around what we eat, how we exercise, how we sleep, et cetera. These habits are the building blocks of our bodies, of our brains, of our entire life. So choose wisely, be awake to these habits. Maybe sleep is an area that you need to explore. All right, there is so much new science that's emerged around sleep. Tons and tons of great stuff out there. I could go on for days about that. Tons and tons of great stuff out there. I could go on for days about that. So, whatever the area is that you're choosing to focus on, pick one at a time, get the support you need, get educated, explore options. Let's go. Build some new habits.
Samantha Pruitt:Your body and mind are partners in this life. Your body and mind are partners in this life. It's not one against the other. It's not the battle between the body and the mind. We're one unit, one beautiful, imperfect human. The body and the mind are partners Together. They will make you rich or bury you in debt. The choice is yours Now, today. Don't waste another year, month, week or day of your life. And when I say they'll bury you in debt, that's disease, that's illness, mental, emotional, physical illness.
Samantha Pruitt:Take on your health as a self-employed, part-time job. This is not one more thing to add to your to-do list. What I mean here is make room, time, resources, energy for this part-time job called you, called your body, called your health. Eliminate the drains, the waste, the burdens that distract you and empty your bank account. Netflix binging on the sofa or playing video games or hanging out with people who do not aspire the way you do to have a quality body and life you know there's so many ways that we waste time and energy. It's not so. Put the phone down, turn the TV off. I just gave you back three hours of your day right there. Make time for this new, part-time, self-employed job called your health, so that you can have the body, the brain and the life that you want.
Samantha Pruitt:Stop settling and compromising. Mental and physical disease battles are a full-time job. You do not want Better to avoid that full-time job. We don't want disease state a disease battle by taking care of business now and doing the part-time job we love, which is building our health, building our wealth in our physical body, in our mental and emotional body health. Building our wealth in our physical body, in our mental and emotional body. Invest now in building the wealth of health. I believe in you. All right, if you need any help with any of this, call me, let's talk about it. I'll give you some homework. We'll go down the road together, but I believe in you. You guys are all capable of doing this and I'm so stoked for you. It's not going to be perfect, it's not going to be fast, but you are freaking worth it. All right, beautiful people, remember how your life looks is not important as how it feels and, as my dearest friend Polly would say, every day is an opportunity for awesomeness.
